What is Contrast Therapy?

Contrast therapy involves alternating exposure to hot and cold temperatures. This can be done in various ways, from the classic sauna and ice bath combo to showers with temperature changes. The key is the rapid shift in temperature, which triggers a number of physiological responses.

Benefits of Contrast Therapy:

Here are some of the reasons why contrast therapy is gaining popularity:

  • Reduced Muscle Soreness:The cold temperatures act as a natural pain reliever and reduce inflammation, while the hot water helps loosen tight muscles. This can significantly improve recovery time after exercise.
    • Improved Circulation:The switch between hot and cold causes blood vessels to constrict and dilate, promoting better blood flow throughout the body. This can lead to faster removal of waste products and improved delivery of oxygen and nutrients.
    • Enhanced Mood and Energy:The cold exposure can activate the sympathetic nervous system, giving you a jolt of energy. Additionally, some studies suggest that contrast therapy may help alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety.
    • Boosted Immunity:Regular contrast therapy sessions might positively influence your immune system by stimulating the production of white blood cells.

How It Works?

At Evera Health, we have private studios, each equipped with an infrared sauna and ice bath.

You can book your 45-minute session and experience contrast therapy or if you’re short on time and looking for a quick pick-me-up, book yourself a 15-minute solo plunge session.

The Science Breakdown

Vasodilatory

Heat exposure triggers the release of vasodilatory substances, widening blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the targeted area. This delivers oxygen and nutrients to promote healing and reduce muscle tension.

Vasoconstriction

The cold stimulates the nervous system, releasing chemicals that cause blood vessels to constrict and restrict blood flow. This constriction may reduce inflammation and offer temporary pain relief.

Regulation

The body's natural mechanisms regulate blood flow throughout the cycle. The repeated widening and narrowing of blood vessels creates a "pumping" effect that might remove waste products and promote healing.

Contrast therapy is generally safe for healthy adults. However, it's not recommended for those with certain health conditions like heart disease, high blood pressure, or uncontrolled diabetes.

Always consult your doctor before starting contrast therapy, especially if you have any underlying health concerns

A typical session involves alternating between the infrared sauna and cold plunge pool for specific durations. We recommend starting slow and gradually increasing the intensity as you get comfortable.

Our staff will walk you through the entire process and answer any questions you may have.

You can personalise your session as you wish but our recommendation for the optimal experience is to spend about 25-30 minutes in the Sauna and then 3-5 minutes in the cold plunge.

We recommend wearing a swimsuit during your contrast therapy session, the rooms are private to you and your plus-one so wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We also provide towels and robes for your convenience.

For optimal results, we recommend 2-3 contrast therapy sessions per week. However, you can adjust the frequency based on your needs and preferences.

Yes, our coolers utilise a UV sanitation feature that safely disinfects the water. To ensure hygiene, we allow a 10-minute cleaning cycle between each session. Additionally, the coolers are drained and thoroughly cleaned every week.
